Foster and adoptive parents and legal guardians receive financial assistance and other services from the Human Services Agency to help them support the current or former foster children in their care.

Kin-GAP Program

When a child cannot be reunited with his or her birth family, permanent placement with a relative is the next best option. The Kinship Guardianship Assistance Payment (Kin-GAP) Program provides a monthly subsidy payment to relatives who assume legal guardianship of a child in the juvenile court dependency system. The Kin-GAP payment rate is the same as the basic rate paid to foster families. It is based upon age, and may pay a clothing and special needs allowance.

Adoption Assistance Program

The Adoption Assistance Program (AAP) provides a monthly subsidy payment to families who adopt a child from the juvenile court dependency system.
