Anti-Scam Training Sessions for Older Adults
WHAT: June is Elder Abuse Awareness Month in California. Each year, an estimated five million older people are abused, neglected, or exploited and lose $2.6 billion or more to scams. To empower older adults to protect against financial predators, a coalition of advocates led by the San Francisco Dept.of Aging and Adult Services (DAAS) will host a week-long series of anti-scam trainings.
The Savvy, Aware, Safe, Strong (SASS) trainings will take place from June 11 to World Elder Abuse Awareness Day on June 15 in community centers across San Francisco. The trainings will be provided in English, Cantonese, and Spanish. Attendees will receive a set of easy-to-follow flashcards describing the common scams that target older people—and how to spot and stop them.
