Disability + Aging Services LGBTQ Programs
Case management and service referrals
- Age and Disability Resource Center (ADRC): The Openhouse ADRC connects community members with essential services. The Resource & Housing Navigation team offers one-on-one support for referrals and service access.
Financial and legal services
- Legal Assistance: Legal Assistance to the Elderly, in collaboration with the AIDS Legal Referral Panel, offers wills, trusts, and end-of-life planning tailored to LGBTQ+ community members.
- LGBTQ+ Financial Literacy: The Smart Money Coaching Program helps clients establish safe banking accounts, reduce debt by at least 10%, and improve credit scores.
Health and well-being programs
- Golden Gate Castro Senior Center: Located in Ellard Hall at Most Holy Redeemer Church, the center promotes independence, health, and well-being through a variety of activities and services.
- LGBTQ Adult Day Programs: Adult Day Programs provide daycare services to LGBTQ+ older adults needing assistance with non-medical activities of daily living and to people who may have cognitive impairments. They are provided by Openhouse in partnership with On Lok Community Day Service, as well as Steppingstone in partnership with Curry Senior Center.
- LGBTQ+ Care Navigation & Aging Support Network: The Shanti Project coordinates care and volunteers to provide emotional and peer support through regular visits with clients. The program also provides resources for clients to maintain their pets, which helps prevent isolation.
- LGBTQ+ Dementia Care Project: The Alzheimer’s Association, in partnership with Openhouse and the Family Caregiver Alliance, provides free training for health and social service providers on caring for LGBTQ+ seniors with Alzheimer’s or dementia.
- LGBTQ+ Mental Health Programs: This citywide pilot program, managed by Curry Senior Center, provides equitable mental health care for underserved LGBTQ+ older adults and adults with disabilities. Services include short-term individual counseling (in-person, telehealth, or hybrid), technology training, and telehealth support.
- Transgender and Gender Nonconforming Services: Ongoing support groups for transgender and gender-nonconforming older adults and adults with disabilities. Curry Senior Center and Openhouse.
Housing services
- Affordable Housing: Openhouse offers a monthly updated list of affordable housing opportunities across San Francisco. They also offer guidance to those seeking affordable housing in San Francisco through their Housing and ADRC drop-in hours and one-on-one housing counseling appointments.
