How to submit timesheets

Log in to the Electronic Services Portal (ESP) to:

  • Enter your hours and submit timesheets  
    Pay periods:  There are two pay periods a month. The first is for days 1 to 15. The second is for days 16 to the last day of the month.
    Submission day: Submit timesheets on the last day of the pay period. Early submissions will not be processed until the end of the pay period.

Reminder: To prevent overtime violations, do not exceed your weekly authorized hours.

  • View your timesheet and payment status
  • Enroll in direct deposit
  • Claim sick leave

Paid Sick Leave

IHSS Providers are eligible for sick pay through the IHSS Sick Leave Program. You can check your available sick leave hours and claim them in the  Electronic Services Portal

 NOTE: Unused sick leave will expire at the end of the state fiscal year (June 30).

Overtime pay 

If your IHSS Recipient needs you to work more than their maximum weekly hours, they must contact their IHSS Social Worker to request overtime. 

Travel time pay 

If you have multiple IHSS Recipients, the state will pay for travel time between clients on the same day. The maximum number of hours for paid travel time in one week is seven. To get paid travel time:

  • To request a travel claim form, submit form SOC 2255 form (English | 中文 | Español) either via  
  • After you submit SOC 2255, check the Electronic Services Portal (ESP) for the travel claim form. If you are a Telephone Timesheet System (TTS) user, a travel claim form will be mailed to you automatically. 

Federal guidelines require non-live-in Providers of IHSS to check in at the start of their workday and check out at the end of their workday.  Check-in and check-out occur at your work location. This can be done on ESP or TTS or by using the IHSSEVV app.

For non-live-in IHSS Providers:

  • When you check in and check out, select "Home" to confirm your location. Your location is NOT tracked throughout the day.
  • If you provide both IHSS and WPCS services, you must check in and check out separately for each program.

How to respond to timesheet violation notices

Please review the information below and contact us at (415) 557-6200 if you need assistance. 

  • Initial violation: IHSS will try to contact you by phone or mail to inform you of the overtime violation. 
  • Violation 1: IHSS will mail you a violation notice.
  • Violation 2: IHSS will mail you a violation notice and the self-training instructional material for completion in order to receive a one-time waiver of the second violation.
  • Violation 3: IHSS will mail you a violation notice and you will have 20 days to respond, otherwise, your provider status will be suspended for 90 days.
  • Violation 4: IHSS will mail you a violation notice and you will have 20 days to respond, otherwise, your provider status will be suspended for 12 months and you will be required to re-enroll with IHSS. You will be required to get fingerprinted again.

How to appeal a violation:

  • Submit Form SOC 2272 (included with each violation notice) that was mailed to you within 10 calendar days. Then the county will review your appeal and you will receive a response of the decision by mail.  
  • If you do not appeal the third or fourth violations, then you will be suspended.
  • If you wish to dispute the county ruling of the third or fourth violation, you may appeal to the state by contacting the county at (415) 557-6200 and request for an IHSS State Administrative Review Request of Third or Fourth Violation for Exceeding Workweek and/or Travel Time Limits dispute form (SOC 2273) within 10 days from the date noted on the violation notice.
